The National Minimum Wage (NMW) is the minimum pay per hour required by law for most workers under the age of 25 and the National Living Wage (NLW) is the minimum pay per hour most workers aged 25 and over are eligible to receive.
Throughout the Unitemps network, our franchises advertise a diverse range of roles across a variety of sectors for their customers. In order to better assist our customers to meet these legal requirements, we have introduced a number of processes to enable our branches to operate smoothly.
Our system will alert our franchises if a role is submitted below the applicable minimum rate so they can investigate this with their customer. In addition, our head office also runs a weekly report to check any assignments listed at the NMW and identify candidates that are approaching the appropriate age for a pay increase. These reports are provided to each of our franchises.
The operations manual supplied to each of our franchises clearly states that all hours worked must be claimed, including activities such as training. Our consultants are trained to ensure candidates log the exact shifts worked, and we have a statement on our website to remind candidates of this policy when submitting their timesheets.
Throughout the year, we provide training across our network and regularly reinforce the importance of the NMW and the NLW.
As a network, we are proud that a number of our franchisees’ universities support the Living Wage Foundation (www.livingwage.org.uk). These institutions voluntarily pay workers the real living wage outlined by the foundation, which is above the required government minimum.
