City, University of London, has brought back its GradVantage scheme for 2024, providing another year of employability support to students in their final year of university.
The award-nominated careers initiative gives students of colour the opportunity to apply for four-week paid internships with employers – and City is currently looking for companies who are interested in participating in the programme for 2024.
This is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to provide valuable work experience to students from under-represented backgrounds. Get access to talented, career-ready graduates who have completed their studies and are looking to make an impact with the skills and knowledge they gained at university.
Businesses involved can enhance their corporate social responsibility and equality, diversity and inclusion agendas, at the same time as building a relationship with City and promoting their organisation to the University’s students and graduates.
Hire an engaged graduate with no recruitment or advertising costs, with the option to retain the intern on a longer-term basis with no additional recruitment cost.
A company that has previously taken part in GradVantage was impressed with the graduate they hired through the programme, saying: “The Intern did a brilliant job for us, integrated well into the team and was thoroughly pleasant and professional.”
How GradVantage 2024 will work
City, University of London, has funding for up to 12 four-week internships. The internships will take place between 1st – 26th July 2024, or potentially later in the summer for Islington-based businesses. The internships can be offered on a full or part-time basis, to total 140 hours.
Companies will be provided 50% of the intern’s salary for four weeks, worth £1,173.90. The graduate will be paid the London Living Wage (currently £13.15 an hour). Including holiday pay and employer NI, the total salary cost will be £2,347.80 over the four weeks.
The internships should be suitable for a recent graduate from one of the following subject areas:
- Law
- Policy and Global Affairs
- Science and Technology
- Communication and Creativity
- Psychology
The graduates who undertake the internships will have limited previous work experience, so the placement should enable them to enhance their core employability skills, develop their confidence and improve their commercial knowledge.
